What is GaiaVic?

GaiaVic Inc. is part of an international network of individuals and Gaia* groups dedicated to living sustainably on the earth.  We are committed to these three objectives:

  1. Personal growth.
Healing and empowering ourselves to fulfil our true personal, community and planetary potential.
  2. Community building.
Creating communities and strengthening those of which we are part.
  3. Service to the earth.
Enhancing the wellbeing and flourishing of all life.

We fulfill these commitments through engaging in Gaia Projects, creating new initiatives with our own members and other organisations.

Our intention is to lovingly support ourselves and others to know we are a part of this earth — rather than disconnected from it — and to act with this knowledge through wisdom and heart.

Each project is independent, autonomous, self-governing and self-funded.

The projects are the personal responsibility of all those involved, through their own power and authority. All projects inform and support each other to meet our objectives.

Many of us have participated in the group work and education founded by Joanna Macy, called The Work That Reconnectswww.joannamacy.net — and we draw from this to empower our projects. The central purpose of The Work That Reconnects is to help people uncover and experience their innate connections with each other and with the systemic, self-healing powers in the web of life, so that we may be enlivened and motivated to play our part in creating a sustainable civilisation.

*Gaia = the living earth

The Choice for a Sustainable World

An inspiring quote from Joanna Macy

We can choose life. Dire predictions notwithstanding, we can still act to ensure a livable world. It is crucial that we know this: we can meet our needs without destroying our life-support system. We have the technical knowledge and the means of communication to do that. We have the savvy and the resources to grow sufficient food, ensure clean air and water, and generate the energy we require through solar power, wind and biomass. If we have the will, we have the means to control human population, to dismantle weapons and deflect wars, and give everyone a voice in democratic self-governance.
